Memorial Day is not just another day off. It’s a solemn reminder of the cost of liberty, and a time to reflect on the brave men and women who laid down their lives in defense of this great nation.
A Brief History of Memorial Day
Memorial Day has its roots in the years following the Civil War. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was established to honor the soldiers who died during the war. Americans would gather in cemeteries and place flowers on the graves of the fallen, recognizing their sacrifice with heartfelt gratitude. Over time, the holiday evolved to honor all U.S. military personnel who died in service.
In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. While the traditions may vary, parades, ceremonies, moments of silence, one thing remains constant: the deep respect we owe to every hero who never made it home.

And too many of those lives have been cut short.
